MUSIC CUP (musiccup.app) · Effective date: August 3, 2026
MUSIC CUP is a free web app operated by Lambda Tech that lets you run a World Cup for the songs of an artist you love and crown your all-time favorite. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the game, understand traffic, and fund the site with ads.
What we store on your device
Your tournament progress (selected songs, match results, language preference) is saved in your browser's localStorage only. It never leaves your device as part of gameplay, and you can erase it at any time by clearing site data in your browser. If you sign in, your cup history and saved artists are also synced to our servers so they follow you across devices.
Anonymous result statistics
When a tournament finishes, the final rankings (song and artist identifiers from the iTunes catalog) are reported to our server to build aggregate charts such as “most crowned songs”. These reports contain no account, no name, no IP address, no device identifier and no cookies. They do carry the city that Cloudflare derives from your IP address (for example “Tokyo”), so we can see which songs are crowned in which city. The IP address itself is never read or stored by us, and a city name on its own cannot identify you. This stays true even when you are signed in — the report itself carries nothing about your account. Linking a cup to your account is a separate, deliberate step described below.
Your account
Signing in is optional. Everything in the game works without an account; signing in only adds cross-device sync. You can sign in with Google, Apple or X, or with a code sent to your email address.
For an account we store your email address, the account identifier the provider (Google, Apple or X) gives us if you sign in that way, the cups you chose to link to your account, and the artists you saved. We do not store passwords, because there are none. Account data lives in a separate database from the anonymous statistics above, and the two are never joined.
We set one cookie of our own, named __Host-mc_sess, which keeps you signed in. It carries a random value with no personal information, is not readable by scripts, is not used for advertising, and is not shared with anyone. It expires after 180 days, or immediately when you sign out.
You can delete your account at any time on the account deletion page. Deleting it removes your email address, your saved artists and the link between you and your cups. The anonymous results themselves are kept, because they no longer have anything to do with you and removing them would rewrite the public charts.
Song search
Search queries you type are sent to Apple's public iTunes Search API to fetch song metadata, artwork and audio previews. Apple's own privacy terms apply to those requests.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 and Baidu Tongji to understand aggregate traffic: page views, device type, interface language, approximate location inferred from your IP address (country and city, for example “Tokyo”), and which artists are searched or crowned. These tools may use cookies or similar identifiers.
We use this to answer questions such as which artists are popular in a given city. Everything is aggregated into city-level counts — we do not build user profiles, and we cannot tell which individual visitor searched for what.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve personalized ads based on your visits to this and other sites. Users in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent dialog first and can decline. You can manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com, and learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Your choices
- Clear your browser's site data to remove all locally saved progress.
- Decline or withdraw ad consent via the consent dialog (EEA/UK/CH) or your browser's cookie settings.
- Use browser tracking-protection features to block analytics.
